Doors & Furniture are stripped either by hand using a very strong industrial chemical, or in our tanks of hot caustic soda. Any chemicals used are then neutralised with hot water for no additional cost. We will offer advice as to the expected outcome of any stripping process on request but this is advice only as we wont know for sure what your doors or furniture are like until they have been fully stripped. We cannot accept any responsibility for the outcome of the stripping process if it is other than originally advised. Back To The Grain Ltd can not guarantee 100% paint/stain/wax/varnish/oil removal when using this option. The customer may have to remove the rest when preparing items for finishing. This is also a service that we offer. See below
Items are stripped as above and given a period of time for the wood to dry, the surface of the wood is sanded to remove any leftover paint/finish and any minor imperfections rectified ready for re-finishing.

Items are stripped & prepared as above. The dried wood surface is then finished to your requirements using quality waxes, polishes, oils & varnishes supplied by Mylands.
Please note: These are price examples for standard doors - larger pieces - paneling, period, specialised doors will all require a separate price. Back To The Grain Ltd can not guarantee 100% paint/stain/wax/varnish/oil removal when using the basic strip only option. The customer may have to remove the rest when preparing items for finishing. This is also a service that we offer. Glass and original leaded/stained glass are fine to go through the stripping process with the following exceptions - Any stick on lead strips and stick on coloured/clear films to replicate leaded/stained glass has a high chance of being lost during stripping. We will do our best to identify this scenario but we can not be held responsible for these losses if they occur. We can install new glass on request, please feel free to ask for costs. Glass will not be cleaned as part of the strip only option. The glass can be cleaned with a household glass cleaner. No chemical will be present on the glass, it will only be water marks. All invoices must be settled before delivery/collection or by the completion date, unless otherwise arranged. Due to space constraints we will hold any items for a week after completion for free but all subsequent weeks will incur a £10.00 + vat per item per week storage charge. We will alleviate this charge and store your items for an arranged period of time if the items are paid for in full during the first week after completion.

The stripping process entails soaking the objects in a warm solution of caustic soda and then pressure spraying with hot water which removes the paint and NEUTRALISES the chemical. Most types of wood and metal can be stripped using this process, but please read our Terms & Conditions page. For more delicate objects we offer a hand stripping service. After stripping and a period of drying we can also undertake finishing and polishing as required. We are a vat registered company and 20% vat is charged on all services and products.
