Stripping Disclaimer
Last Modified 25/01/2024
Whilst we will take every care to ensure that your goods are not damaged as a result of the stripping process, we cannot accept any responsibility for any damage or loss caused.
• We will offer advice as to the expected outcome of any stripping process but this is advice only as we will not know for sure what your doors or furniture are like until they have been fully stripped. We cannot accept any responsibility for the outcome of the stripping process if it is other than originally advised.
• We can not guarantee removal of 100% of any finish on any items stripped. We do offer a sanding service at an additional cost that will remove any additional finish that the chemical stripping can not remove. Please see our stripping & pricing page for these costs.
• Our paint and varnish tank stripping operation requires soaking the object in a warm solution of water and sodium hydroxide (caustic soda which is alkaline). After soaking the object it is pressure sprayed with hot water to remove the finish and neutralise the salts.
• Sometimes, softer and more porous timber may hold the salt within the wood and extend the drying out period. We recommend that the area be washed, firstly with vinegar (a weak acid) and then later with clean water.
• Soaking can adversely affect laminated materials such as plywood and veneers and it may not be possible to identify these materials under a paint layer. Again we will offer our advice but the customer must take final responsibility.
• Doors and windows with glass in them are fine to go through the stripping process but, while we will be as careful as possible, we cannot assume any responsibility for any glass breakages of any form while the item is in our care. If there are still worries then we advise that you remove any glass from the item before it is received by BTTG.
• Doors with glass that is held in with putty are fine to go through the stripping process but you may find that as the door dries out, the putty may loosen. If this occurs the putty can be scraped out and replaced. We can offer this service, please call for costings.
• Lead and glass in leaded light glazing is unaffected by caustic soda. However the cement within the frames of the glazed panels can become fractured through wear and tear and may be washed out during the tanking and cleaning processes.
• Glass and original leaded/stained glass are fine to go through the stripping process with the following exceptions- Any STICK ON lead strips and STICK ON coloured/clear films to replicate leaded/stained glass have a high chance of being lost during stripping. We will do our best to identify this scenario but we can not be held responsible for these losses if they occur. We can install new glass on request, please feel free to ask for costs.
• Glass will not be cleaned as part of the stripping process. Any residue that is on the glass is not harmful and can be wiped clean with standard glass cleaning products or baby wipes.
• Customers should be aware that glass in leaded glazing could become loose so that the door may 'rattle'. This rattle can be remedied by the insertion of black putty cement into the small gaps between the lead and glass.
• On return/collection of any items that have been stripped only - the items may still be damp. Please ensure that any flooring where they are to be stored is well protected while the items continue to dry. We suggest placing a plastic sheet under any stripped items until they are dry enough to be worked on.
• Any timeframes given are estimates only and we can not be held liable for needing to extend already given lead times. We sometimes get most items completed within any given time but there are exceptions that may take longer. We will try to inform clients as best we can with regards to timings.
• We can not offer refunds or discounts if lead times need to be extended due to unforeseen circumstances, the nature of the business and the materials involved.
• All doors, furniture & architectural that require further work, ie, resizing, sanding, finishing etc.. is classed as “further work” and is chargeable. You will be informed of any additional charges in either verbal, written or electronic means.
• All “further work” will be priced individually to any other work already carried out (but on the same invoice in some cases). This includes, but is not limited to - stripping, resizing, sanding, finishing etc…
• The customer is responsible for supplying BTTG with any measurements and we will assume that all sizes given are correct. BTTG will not take any responsibility for any incorrect sizes given to us by the customer or customers builder/carpenter. We will not offer refunds on any items where the customer or customers builder/carpenter has incorrectly measured.
• BTTG offer a service to come and take any measurements and this is a chargeable service. We will then be responsible for the item being made to the correct size. In the rare event of a mistake by BTTG while sizing any item we can only refund on the “further work” portion of the cost and not the initial purchase price of the item as all items are initially sold “as seen” with the “further work” as an additional service. This is unless damage is caused to the item originally purchased.
• We will rectify any issues that may arise from the “further work” carried out by BTTG ONLY if we deem the fault to be our own.
• providing you with technical information and responding to any customer service issue you may have;
(ie, if we have resized a door to measurements that we have taken incorrectly we will rectify this free of charge, but, if we resize a door to the measurements given to us by the customer or the customers on-site builder/carpenter and the measurements are incorrect, we are not liable to rectify free of charge and are within our rights to charge for the rectification).
• When having an item “finished” ie, waxed, stained, varnished or painted we can try to colour match to the customers specifications.
• We cannot guarantee an exact colour match and we will advise on the expected outcome.
• The actual finish may differ to that required by you or advised by us. We cannot be held responsible for not getting an exact match, but we will get as close as we possibly can.
• If any items sold by BTTG either “as seen” or having had “further work” carried out to it by us and are then further altered by the customer or the customers builder/carpenter we are not responsible for the item and cannot offer any refund or free rectification.
